Spur gears are the most basic type of parallel-axis gear. Mating spur gears are mounted
on shafts with parallel axes. They are used to change the speed of rotation from one shaft
to another and/or change the direction of rotation (clockwise to counter-clockwise, or
vice-versa). Spur gears are manufactured most often by gear hobbing or gear shaping,
although numerous other processes can be used (notably injection moulding for plastic
gears and powder metal pressing and sintering). Finishes available to our clients are
as cut or for greater precision shaved or for high precision gears we can offer gear tooth
profile grinding.
